Odis Cobb ('71)

Mr. Cobb earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Houston in 1971 and 1979. Several years after graduating from the University of Houston he became registered in the State of Texas as a licensed Professional Engineer and as a Registered Land Surveyor. In 1980, Mr. Cobb and fellow UH alumnus Bill Fendley established the Houston based civil engineering and land surveying firm Cobb, Fendley and Associates, Inc. where he served as President and Director through 2008 and from which he retired in 2013.

Mr. Cobb was active in the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, the Houston Engineering and Scientific Society (HESS) and the Houston Council of Engineering Companies (HCEC). While involved with these organizations he served as President of HESS and as a Director with HCEC. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Coastal Water Authority by Houston Mayor Annise Parker in March 2010 where he served through March 2016.

Mr. Cobb’s historical association with the Cullen College of Engineering included the following.

  • Committee member of the Cullen College’s annual Engineering Golf tournament
  • Member of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board
  • Chairman of the Telecommunications Engineering Advisory Board
  • Member of the Dean’s Engineering Leadership Board
  • Member of the Academy of Distinguished Civil and Environmental Engineers
  • Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award in 1999
  • Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

Cobb and Fendley established three UH scholarship endowment funds, one building endowment fund and they were instrumental in the establishment of a memorial scholarship fund in honor of one of their close UH Civil Engineering friends C.J. Tamborello.
